Overview
Ehime University encourages all international students enrolled in the university to study Japanese and provides comprehensive Japanese language education.There are courses for international undergraduate students in the Common Education Program.
Non-undergraduate students who wish to take these courses should read the syllabus carefully and inquire at the respective department office.
In addition, there are classes offered by the Organization for the Promotion of International Collaboration (OPCI), although students cannot earn credits for these classes.We also offer classes to acquire knowledge to start life in Japan smoothly, classes on Japanese culture, and classes to acquire Japanese language skills that will be useful in finding employment.
If there is room in the program, we also offer a certificate program, “Japanese Language Study Program,” which can be taken by students who are not international students.Please click here for details of the certificate program “Japanese Language Study Program.

Regular Course
Target group | International students at Ehime University (excluding those taking the Preparatory Education Course) (Visiting foreign researchers, foreign full-time faculty members, etc. may also take the course if there is room in the enrollment) |

Survival Course
Target group | Newly enrolled international students, etc. (Visiting foreign researchers, full-time international faculty members, and spouses may also take this course if there is room) |
Point of attention | This is Ehime University’s own 2-week intensive course, offered at the beginning of each semester. The “Language Skills” course aims to help students learn to listen to and speak the minimum amount of Japanese necessary for daily life. Life Skills provides the minimum necessary information for living in Matsuyama. Students with high Japanese language proficiency may take “Life Skills” only. Preliminary Education Course
Target group | Government-sponsored international students (research students and teacher training students) who require preparatory Japanese language education, and other students deemed appropriate by the Director of OIST. |
Point of attention | After the Survival Course, students will continue to learn basic Japanese. The main goal is to be able to speak Japanese in daily conversation, and students will also study hiragana, katakana, and kanji (about 300 characters).
