About Foreign Government-Sponsored Students
Even if you receive a scholarship from a foreign government, you are not a recipient of a Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship, so you are not considered a government-sponsored student, but a form of “privately financed student”.
If you are enrolled as an undergraduate student, MEXT will request that you be accepted by the University. If you wish to enroll as a graduate student or research student, MEXT will make an inquiry to the relevant faculty to see if it is possible to accept you, taking your field of specialization into consideration.
International students by JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency)
Accepted by JICA under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
International students under the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) International Student Exchange Support Program (Acceptance)
This is a program to support international students who are accepted by Japanese universities and graduate schools for a period of three months to one year while still enrolled at their home universities, based on agreements for student exchange with universities in other countries.
