About Exchange Programs

For the second semester of AY2026, exchange students are expected to travel to Japan and participate in classes on campus. However, please note that due to the spread of infectious diseases, the procedure may be cancelled depending on the situation at either or both of the sending/host university.
The program may also be cancelled if no host faculty member can be found, or if the applicant’s academic performance or application documents are deemed insufficient.
If available, students are responsible for all travel expenses.

What is an exchange student?

Students from exchange partner universities are divided into “special auditing students” and “special research students” at Ehime University. “Special Auditing Students” are students who attend classes and cannot become auditing students in order to obtain a “Student” visa. “Special Research Students” are students who conduct research without the purpose of earning credits, and their term of study is one year or less, with renewal possible within one year in principle. In principle, applicants are expected to hold a bachelor’s degree or higher.

How to apply

Applicants must apply through their home university. Applications from individuals will not be accepted.

Procedures

Step.1

Applicants should inquire at their home university’s exchange office for more information.

Step.2

Receive a recommendation for an exchange program at your home university.

Step.3

Students who have received a recommendation are required to submit the following documents to the exchange office of their home university. There are prescribed forms for the “Application for Exchange Student at Ehime University / Course(s) to be audited” and the “Application for Certificate of Eligibility”.

Step.4

The contact person in charge of exchange programs at your home university will submit to Ehime University a list of recommenders and the required documents from the recommended students.

Step.5

After Ehime University issues a letter of admission after deliberation, procedures for obtaining a Certificate of Eligibility will begin. Depending on the faculty you wish to enroll in, there may be a separate online interview, etc. *There is a possibility that you may not be able to proceed with the procedure due to restrictions on visa issuance by the government.

Step.6

The Certificate of Eligibility and Letter of Admission will be sent by Ehime University to the exchange office of the student’s home university.

Step.7

The applying student should receive a Certificate of Eligibility and go through visa application procedures at the nearest Japanese embassy or consulate. *Required documents differ depending on the applicant’s nationality, so please refer to the website of each embassy or consulate for details.

Step.8

If the procedures after submitting the application for admission go smoothly, the process will be completed in approximately 4 months.

About Language Requirements

Exchange students must have the language ability to communicate with the host faculty. As a general rule, the language must be either Japanese or English.

If your Japanese language skills are not sufficient, you will mainly take Japanese language classes provided by the Organization for the Institute for International Relations. Ehime University will not issue credits, but an academic record will be issued in the name of the Vice President.

Certificates, etc. according to the method of payment of study abroad expenses

Submission of Health Certificate

Ehime University has decided to ask you to submit a Chest X-ray Report and a medical questionnaire in order to check your health condition in preparation for your future life as a student. Please take a moment to fill out the attached form and submit it to Ehime University.
